Job Description

Job Summary: A Cake Decorator Expert, you'll apply a mastery of skills in a specialized area, and maintain quality of products. You'll rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish assigned goals, serve as a resource to others to resolve complex issues, and train future Cake Decorators.


Key Responsibilities & Essential Functions:

• Customer Service:

  • Assists customers with bakery products and purchases
  • Uses suggestive selling techniques to meet customer needs and to build department sales

• Production:

  • Masters all specialty cakes, sculpture cakes, signature cakes, and H-E-B wedding cakes
  • Handles and masters custom orders by request
  • Reads / executes daily production list through cake flow
  • Properly tops / finishes all cake goods to create a fresh and appetizing presentation
  • Maintains product integrity through proper handling of product
  • Ensures quality control of all products before sending to sales floor
  • Ensures cake product reaches the showcase and tables at the prescribed times
  • Trains future Cake decorators
  • Performs Cake Decorator duties

• Food Service:

  • Organizes back storage room, freezer, walk-in, DSD inventory, wrap, supplies and production area
  • Assists with inventory control, including loading, unloading, moving, and storing products

• Food Safety:

  • Maintains sanitation in work area
  • Complies with H-E-B food safety and sanitation standards
  • Ensures all products comply with H-E-B code dating policy
  • Ensures productivity standards are met without compromising product quality
  • Ensures potentially hazardous foods are maintained under appropriate temperatures

Qualifications & Key Requirements:

Work Experience:
  • 3+ years Experience in Bakery specialization - Preferred
  • 6+ months experience in cake decorating - Required

  • Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
  • Working knowledge of the use of cake decorating equipment, mixes, icings, ingredients, etc. - Required
  • Knowledge of H-E-B systems - Required
  • Strong customer service skills - Required
  • Communication and interpersonal skills - Required
  • Reading and writing Skills - Required
  • Ability to work in / keep up with fast-paced production level - Required

  • Education:

    Licenses/Certifications:
  • Cake Works 1, 2, and 3 training; wedding cake certification - Required
  • Completion of food sanitation and safety training, eCommerce Online Ordering training, and other assigned e-learning modules - Required

  • Physical Demands & Working Conditions:
  • Function in a fast-paced, retail environment, in detailed and precise tasks
  • Work with Customers, staying attentive to their needs
  • Constantly stand, reach at waist, grasp
  • Occasionally walk, reach at overhead, reach at shoulder, reach at knee, reach at floor, bend, stoop, squat, crouch, kneel, stair climb, pivot, twist, arm push / pull, pinch, utilize fine motor skills
  • Occasionally be exposed to wet, cold, hot conditions, and loud noise
  • Demonstrate the ability to lift up to 40 lbs
  • Demonstrate the ability to manage in excess of 25 lbs
  • While there may be exceptions, the measurements noted are generally defined as--Constantly: 5.5+ hours per 8-hour day; Frequently: 2.5 - 5.5 hours per 8-hour day; Occasionally: 0 - 2.5 hours per 8-hour day
